Kota Kinabalu: Those players who want to wear a Sabah jersey must have a sense of pride and must be able to produce their best in every match, said new Sabah head coach Milomir Seslija on Monday.
The Bosnian who was officially unveiled at the Sabah Football Association office by Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang said it was an honour to be given the chance to coach the Sabah team and he thanked the Sabah FA and its President Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for giving him this opportunity.
"I believe in destiny and it is a dream come true for me to be here as a coach after 16 years as in my heart, Sabah is always my second home."
He admitted that it won't be an easy task to turn the team's fortune around in an instant.
"It won't be easy but I believe if all parties with the players and coaches, the officials and supporters doing their part together as a team, I don't see why the team cannot succeed and give the fans what they fully deserve."
"There shouldn't be any interference in each other's jobs otherwise there is no point to bring me in here if I am going to encounter any interference from any parties while discharging my duty as a coach," he stressed.
Lawrence had earlier stated that Milomir will be given the full power to do what he think is right in order for the team to progress to a higher level.

Milomir becomes the centre of attention
Daily Express
Kota Kinabalu: Potential Sabah new coach Milomir Seslija drew in a large crowd at the Likas Stadium on Saturday night with his brief appearance for the Sabah veteran selection against the visiting Negeri Sembilan veterans.
The lanky midfielder who was one of the stalwarts for the State team during the heydays in the 90s linked up with his former teammates Matlan Marjan, Yap Wai Loon, Bobby Chua and others and gave the crowd a night to remember with their touches and skills on the ball. The team beat the visitors 3-0 with goals from Julius Ating, Suharmin Yusof and Paulus Jimit.
The Bosnian was treated like a rock star after the match as large numbers of fans surrounded him and asked for his autograph as well as to take photographs with him. However, he refused to talk about the coaching job and said it was too early to make any statement but said he was very happy to be back in Sabah and pleased to see his old friends again.

Back to the drawing board
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: It has been a disappointing season yet again for Sabah in the Malaysian League. They saw their challenge being cut short following their failure to make it into the prestigious Malaysia Cup tournament. This is the second consecutive year that Sabah will not feature in the country’s oldest competition.
The 0-4 defeat to Negeri Sembilan in the playoff at the Shah Alam Stadium on Wednesday night was nothing more than an embarrassment to the State squad. Well, many may not like it, but we got to admit the fact that there is something somewhere that is certainly not right within the team. But this is for the Sabah Football Association (SFA) to ponder what went wrong in the team.
Some even say that the SFA itself needs transformation, but then again, what is the point of transformation if these problems within the team are left unchecked. Instead of trying to look for a scapegoat or to start to point fingers for the awful campaign, SFA should seriously look into the root of the problems and go back to the drawing board and start afresh.

Milomir new Sabah coach
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: Seslija Milomir has been named as the new Sabah head coach.
The Bosnian will be officially unveiled anytime now.
In fact, the former Sabah midfield maestro is already in the national capital, and was among those who turned up for Sabah’s Malaysia Cup playoff against Negeri Sembilan at the Shah Alam Stadium last night.
Yesterday, Sabah Football Association (SFA) Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang confirmed that Milomir, who donned Sabah colours from early 1994 to 1997, will be their new head coach succeeding David McCreery, who resigned due to health reasons, last month. “We have discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes and we unanimously agreed on Milomir (Seslija Milomir),” said Lawrence, when met at the SFA office in Likas here yesterday.
It was believed that Milomir was among the list of candidates that were eyeing the Sabah hot seat following the departure of McCreery. Among them were former Perak coach Toni Netto, who too has had an impressive record with Perak. “I have contacted him and asked him whether he is willing to come to Sabah, and he agreed, and he even says that he is half Sabahan.

SFA quest to spot cream of the crop

“We will be using this championship as part of our selection platform to select players for the new season. “We also hope to find talented players with the calibre of our former greats such as James Wong, Hassan Sani and Peter Rajah to name a few,” Lawrence said, after chairing the SFA Local Competition Committee meeting yesterday.
Lawrence, who also heads the committee, added that the format of the competition is quite similar to that of the Sabah Games and that these teams will play in the preliminary round stage before the finals in the State Capital, which has been tentatively slated for Nov 11 to 17, 2013. Lawrence said that among the rules and regulations of the competition is that each team is allowed to name 24 players, but only 18 to be registered.

Negeri Sembilan 4-0 Sabah: Nazrin’s hattrick illuminates a dour match
Goal.com
Shah Alam Stadium was the chosen venue for one of two playoff matches for the night, with the victors progressing to the Malaysia Cup draw. In a neutral stadium, Negeri Sembilan (NS) and Sabah played in front of a sparse crowd. The majority in the crowd were supporting Sabah and their every scream echoed through an almost empty stadium.
However, their excitement soon turned to anger and disappointment. Within 15 minutes of the opening whistle, the Borneo side were already staring at a defeat. Nazrin Nawi’s double salvo put Sabah to the sword in the opening period of the first half. A well struck freekick in the 12th minute and a converted penalty in the 15th minute, saw NS took a well deserved 2-0 lead.
To make matters worse for Sabah, Shahrul Azhar was sent off in conceding the penalty. One man down and 2 goals behind, so early in the game, would knock the stuffing out of any team. To their credit, Sabah made themselves more compact and began to manufacture chances of their own after that. Two most credible chances fell onto the path of import, Abdelfatah Safi.

End of the road
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: It is end of the road for the Sabahawks Juniors in the President’s Cup challenge 2013.
Despite nicking a narrow 1-0 win over Sarawak at the Likas Stadium yesterday, it was not enough to put the Sabahawks Juniors into the quarter-finals.
They saw their hope turn into ashes, as Kedah won their battle against Penang at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar, also played yesterday.
The feat saw them finish ninth in the 18-team standings with 53 points, two behind eight placed Kedah. A defeat for Kedah could have seen the State Under-21 team march into the last eight, but unfortunately Kedah were in brilliant form as they thrashed the visiting Penang 5-0. “We did our part to win the game against Sarawak, and there is nothing more we can do about it,” said team manager Datuk Juil Nuatim when met after the match.
“It has been a challenging season, and it’s just too bad that we cannot make it into the quarter-finals. We were so close to making it through, but this is football, and we are paying the price for not doing well enough to earn a place in the next round. “Anyway, I still believe that we have a decent side, and despite not making the cut, I think our level is not too far away from the rest of the top teams.

Mathematical chance for Sabahawks Juniors
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Juil Nuatim has challenged his Sabahawks Juniors side to come out all with guns blazing against Sarawak in a President’s Cup tie at the Likas Stadium today. The Sabahawks Juniors must win the tie in order to stand any chance of making it into the quarter-finals. They are currently in ninth in the 18-teams standings on 50 points, and two points behind Kedah, who occupy the last slot for the last eight.
Seventh placed Negeri Sembilan is three points ahead of Sabahawks Juniors. And with the preliminary round stage heading into its last fixtures of the season, the Sabahawks Juniors will only make it through if they beat Sarawak while Kedah fumbles at the hand of Penang in another tie playing at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Star. Another scenario is that if Negeri Sembilan lose to Bukit Jalil Sports School at MSN Field D in Bukit Jalil, and Kedah draw with Penang, Sabahawks Juniors will still make it if they beat Sarawak by at least 11 goals.
“We must go out there and try to win with as many goals as possible. We have got nothing to lose,” said Juil. “We don’t have to worry about the outcome of the other games, because it is more important that we do our part and win our match,” the Sabah team manager added. Juil said that they have all their top players available for the clash, and that he is expecting them to deliver victory.

Sabahawks out to burst Crocs’ bubble
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is determined to end newly crowned Premier League champions Sarawak’s invincible run when they meet in a Borneo Derby clash at the Likas Stadium today.
The match that is scheduled to kick off at 4.45pm, a 30 minutes delay than the usual kick off time of 4.15pm, is the last match of the season.
Sarawak clinched the title in the League’s penultimate tie on June 24 after trouncing Kuala Lumpur 4-0, and is the only team that has yet to suffer any defeat this season after registering an impressive 17 wins and four draws. They will be hoping to stay unbeaten and keep their near-perfect record intact, with their Borneo arch rivals Sabah, their last hurdle.
Sabah discards, Mafry Balang, Bobby Gonzales and Ronny Harun, who now don Sarawak colours, are all expected to take on their former teammates. Sabah caretaker coach Johnny Dominicus when contacted yesterday said they are looking forward to the clash, and are determined to end their season on a good note.

Juniors, Kedah to battle for last quarters berth
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: Sabahawks Juniors will fight it out with Kedah for the remaining quarterfinal slot in the President’s Cup challenge. Yesterday, Negeri Sembilan clinched their ticket after nicking a convincing 4-1 win over Police to accompany Perak, Johor, Pahang, Kelantan, Selangor and Terengganu, whom have all booked their berths with ease.
With Penang losing 1-3 to Perak, it has given them no chance of making it through into the last eight, and that leaves Kedah and Sabahawks Juniors as the only two teams vying for the last slot. Kedah could have ended Sabahawks Juniors’ hope, but it didn’t materialise, as they could merely manage to settle for a one-all draw against Terengganu.
On the other hand, the Sabahawks Juniors kept their slim hope going after blanking Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School 2-0 at the Bandar Penawar Stadium. “As I have said earlier on, we just have to win our battles. Whether we make it or otherwise, we leave it to fate to decide. But it is important for us to do our part,” said Sabahawks Juniors’ team manager Datuk Juil Nuatim when contacted yesterday.

Cebagoo FC end campaign on low note
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Cebagoo FC concluded their season with a 0-0 draw against Tumpat FA of Kelantan in a FAM Cup tie at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium on Sunday. The feat saw them end their challenge with merely four wins, including one on a technicality, six draws and 10 defeats, which was far from encouraging.
However, it was enough for them to retain their seventh placing in the 11-team standings on 18 points, at least until the rest of the teams play their last matches. For the record, Cebagoo is the only team to have completed their fixtures in the competition while the rest would only conclude their campaign this Friday. When contacted yesterday, Cebagoo Head Coach Razali Zinin said their season could have been better, if not for several factors that include slump in form, injuries and suspensions to key players that disrupted their campaign.
Missing two of his most experienced players – Md Reithuddin Ag Emran and Vun Ket Ming @ Billyton midway through the first round challenge was also another major factor for their unconvincing show. In fact, since Reithuddin and Billyton went AWOL, who were believed to be at odds with the club management, Cebagoo’s campaign nose dived after quite a bright start, including the 2-0 opening win against state side Melaka.

Failure not an option for Sabahawks Juniors
New Sabah Times
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabahawks Juniors are going for broke in their bid to keep their slim hopes alive when they take on Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School at the Bandar Penawar Stadium in Johor today. The State Under-21 side knows too well that they must win this penultimate tie of the season at all costs, failing means their hope of making the quarter-finals will be evaporated.
“We all know that this is a must-win game, and I want the players to give all the best and get all the three points,” said Datuk Juil Nuatim. “Even though on paper, we have the least chance of making it through, but in football anything can happen, so it is important for us to fight until the end,” the Sabahawks Juniors team manager added. The Sabahawks Juniors are one of the four teams that are fighting for the remaining two quarter-finals slots.
The other three teams are Kedah, Negeri Sembilan and Penang. Both Kedah and Negeri Sembilan have the upper hand over Penang and Sabahawks Juniors. Kedah are currently in seventh on 51 points followed by Negeri Sembilan (50), Penang (48) and Sabahawks Juniors (47) in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Nicking one win from their remaining two matches should be enough to put Kedah through into the last eight while Negeri Sembilan need four points from the possible six to clinch their berth.
