SABAH CEBAGOO made a winning start to their FAM Cup campaign with a 2-0 home win over Malacca today.
Sabah discard Mohd Reithuddin Emran scored the opening goal by converting a penalty kick after 24 minutes.
The Sabah club side then added a second through Mohd Nizam Jefferi after Malacca goalkeeper Nor Iman’s howler in letting a seemingly harmless shot fly past him in the 38th minute.
“I was confident prior to the match that we would emerge victorious,” said Cebagoo head coach Razali Zinin.
After the first half goals, however, Cebagoo were made to work extra hard in the second half as Malacca returned a different team.
The visitors dominated possession as they looked to get back into the game but Reithuddin was in fine form, winning headers as well as intercepting passes to keep the scoreline intact.
“Reithuddin has a good game today,” Razali said of his new captain. “He brings experience to the squad and he did a good job in organising the backline.”
“There are a few weaknesses and we will rectify it to be better in the next game. There is certainly room for improvement,” he added.
Around 1,000 fans watched the match played at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah stadium.
