SABAH keep their President’s Cup quarterfinal hopes alive by beating Selangor 3-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium today. Muhammad Asnan gave the hosts a bright start with a third minute goal but Sabri Sahar levelled the tie on 35 minutes.

The evening turned for the better for the Justin Ganai-coached Sabah when Hafizan Jahar made it 2-1 seven minutes later. Sabah confirmed the three points when the unfortunate Salomon Raj deflected Mohd Farris’ effort, for an own goal in the 84th minute. Team manager Datuk Juil Nuatim hailed Sabah’s performance which he described “the best from the team this season”.

“We should have played like that from the start of the campaign. Now we are in the final stages and still trying to get into the last eight. “The three points today gave us hope and we will definitely fight to the end,” he said after the match. Sabah moved to 44 points in the 18-team table but still trail eighth placed Penang, who took the last quarterfinal spot, by three points after their 4-0 demolition of Malacca.

The Junior Sabahawks will next face Terengganu at the Likas Stadium on June 24.
