Sabah slump to another defeat

sports247.my

AN insipid Sabah suffered yet another deserved defeat in the Premier League – this time to Pos Malaysia 1-2 at the Likas Stadium today. Mohd Saufi Mohd Ibrahim was the hero for the visitors by scoring in each half to add more misery to the Sabahawks’ campaign. Saufi put his side in front after only five minutes when he overpowered central defenders Hardy Parsi and Rosdin Wasli before sending a low shot past goalkeeper Syamsuri Mustapha.

Sabah equalised four minutes later through Alto Linus who let fly a thunderous shot from just outside the box that had Pos Malaysia keeper Mohd Azlen Ahmad Jabri beaten. The contest was all but over when Saufi netted the winner in the 65th minute with a simple tap-in after Mohd Hafizi Amiruddin’s low cross evaded at least four Sabah players, including the goalkeeper.

The defeat left Sabah without a win in their last four league outings and they have now lost five of their seven matches. “I’m dissapointed,” head coach David McCreery said. “The team commitment was only 75 per cent at best and they needed more than that. “I honestly don’t know what the problem is,” he added while dismissing it has anything to do with salary payment which was done in time. With such a poor performance, Sabah can expect tough times against leaders Police in their next assignment on Feb 22.
