Safi nets Sabah’s third goal in 3-1 win over UiTM FC. |
Earlier, the French-born Moroccan also started the move that led to Sabah’s first goal after just 32 seconds on the clock. Mohd Fazilidin Khalid hammered the ball into the net with Zainizam applying the final pass in a breathtaking team move. Sabah’s bright start to the match were further rewarded when Shahruddin Yakup made it 2-0 with a screamer after receiving a short pass from team captain Shahrul Azhar Ture in the 25th minutes.
Hopes were high that the Sabah could add to their tally, but UiTM had other ideas as they showed greater determination in the second half. The visitors looked dangerous with three chances but only one went in courtesy of Afiff Ashraf’s shot from tight angle in the 77th minute.
The victory saw Sabah collect 24 points to remain in sixth position with seven wins, three draws and seven defeats. With promotion a lost battle, Sabah’s only realistic target is to secure a place in the Malaysia Cup. Sabah will be away to KL Pos Malaysia on May 17.
