SABAH recorded their first win of the President’s Cup campaign by beating Kelantan 1-0 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium today.
Striker Rexjeson Pitirus’ goal after 21 minutes settled the match to bring Sabah’s total to four points. They had drawn their opening game against Malacca at home.
The highly rated youngster reacted the quickest to slot the ball home, meeting a low cross into the box following good build-up play from Didie Arizal and Eyo Matthew.
Sabah could have added a second just before the break but Anwari Tajuddin’s effort rattled the crossbar.
Head coach Justin Ganai attributed the victory to an improved performance in the middle of the park, which he said was lacking in the first game.
“It was one of the keys leading to our win today,” he said.
Sabah will have the chance to improve on the standings when they host Perak at the Likas Stadium on Thursday.
