Sabah down Kelantan

Daily Express

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah claimed its first President Cup victory of the new season with a 1-0 win over Kelantan at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadiumin Kota Bharu on Monday. Rexjeson Pitrus was the hero for the team as his strike in the 21st minute settled the squad's nerves. The Keningau lad who made his senior debut against Felda United in the FA Cup opened his account in the President Cup campaign after receiving a pass from fellow striking partner Eyo Mathew who started the game ahead of Zil Manshah Aling.

It was a better performance by the Sabah team after the disappointing draw in their opening game. The combination is beginning to click with Sabri Sahar and Didie Arizal in the engine room and the speedy duo of Umareng Bacok and Anwari Tajuddin at the flanks. They were in control of the first 45 minutes and the back four of Dendy Lowa, Rawilson Batul, Shazree Ruhif Ismail and Jenius Karib were also able to withstand the pressure from the home team in the second half to grind out a well deserved victory in the end.

Sabah's next opponents are Perak and the match will be held here at the Likas Stadium on Thursday (Feb 7).
