KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah President Cup squad will be chasing their third straight win in the competition against Kedah in a Group A tie at Stadium Darul Aman in Alor Setar this afternoon (Thursday).
Only one point separate the two teams with Sabah currently in seventh place in the table standing with six points from four games, while Kedah are in fourth place with seven points.
Coach Justin Ganai (pic) who saw his team labour to beat Armed Forced FC 1-0 in the last match on Saturday at UMS Stadium hoped the players can be more clinical in front of goal.
“I have confidence in my players’ ability to deliver the result tomorrow. The only problem thus far was their failure to convert goal-scoring chances.
“They have been playing well in all the matches since the start of the season, but the frontline seemed to be at a loss when facing strong defensive team.
The players tend to hesitate even with only the goalkeeper to beat.
“They need to be more composed and I have been working with my coaching staff to improve their finishing for the past few days, and if they can overcome that, then there is no reason we cannot beat Kedah in their own den,” he said before their departure Wednesday morning.
He also said there will not be any changes in the team’s starting line-up for the match.
Joslan Aping will start in goal supported by Gerald Gadit, Abdul Hanafie Tokyo Abdul Hasim, Mohd Izzat Aziz in defence while the five-man midfield will have captain Mohd Aidil Safee, Zulkifly Harun, Erick Odo, Mohd Azmizan Ruslih and Mohd Syukri Baahrun while the strikers are Ariusdius Jais and Mohd Shariman Mukarim.
