Justin’s boys extend unbeaten streak

New Sabah Times

KOTA KINABALU: Tambadau Juniors extend their unbeaten streak to three matches despite drawing 0-0 with Kedah during their President’s Cup Group A tie, yesterday at the Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar. Justin Ganai’s boys had to rue their missed chances, including a penalty miss late in the second half as they shared the points with the home side in an even matched encounter.

Both sides finished the first half on even ground, they both had genuine chances only to be stopped by the two teams’ goalkeepers. In the second half, Sabah came out slightly stronger with several chances including a free header from a set piece situation which went wide in the 59th minute. While the best chance of the match was Tambadau Juniors’ penalty kick in the 80th minute, courtesy of a foul by the home side’s defender.

However, Kedah’s goalkeeper pulled off a brilliant save to deny Sabah taking all three points. Sabah’s head coach, Justin nevertheless was happy with the one point despite not extending their winning run. “The players played well today (Thursday). We missed several chances to score, especially the penalty kick but all in all, we will take that one point without regret as Kedah are a much stronger side than us.

“We will go back home now, before doing a team meeting to rectify our weaknesses and correct them before our next match,” said the evergreen coach when contacted. At press time, Sabah still sit in seventh spot in the group with seven points from five matches with Selangor leading the way on top with a perfect 12 points from four matches. The Tambadau Juniors will next face a daunting visit from Selangor for their Group A tie at the Likas Stadium on April 11 (Thursday). – UMESH RAJAN
