Open trials for Under-19 squad

New Sabah Times

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Football Association will be organising an open selection trials to select players for its Under-19 squad in preparations for the national level tournament scheduled for next month.

The two-day trials will be held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex field C on April 11 and 12.
The FA Executive Secretary Hasbullah Hj Yahya said they are calling on players who are born in 1993 or after to attend the trials that will be held from 8am to 4pm during the two days.

According to him, during the FA Technical and Development Committee meeting on Thursday that was chaired by its chairman Datuk Yusuff Mohd Kassim, they also decided on the selection panel for the trials.
He added that during the meeting they have also identified the team manager as well as the head coach and assistant coach for the team.

“However, the official announcement will only be made after the selection trials,” said Hasbullah.
Unlike in the past where it was held on a league format, this time around, the National Under-19 will be held on a carnival basis.

Hasbullah said this time, the tournament will be held at the Universiti Utara Malaysia in Sintok, Kedah from May 1 to 14.
He added that players who have been registered with any teams involved in the FAM Cup, the President’s Cup, Premier League or the Super League are ineligible to play.

He said that those who are interested must bring along their identity cards during the trials.
