Kota Kinabalu: Some 200 junior footballers from throughout Sabah turned up on the first day trial to select players for the State President and Youth Cup squads next season. The afternoon sessions held at the Likas synthetic pitch was conducted by Osmera Omoro and Billyton Vun Ket Ming for the President Cup squad.
Billy, who was the assistant coach to Johnny Dominicus for the State President Cup squad last season, said he is quite impressed by what he saw so far. "These players were shortlisted earlier by our scouts during the Safa Cup competition and there are some who are quite good. "However, it is still early stage yet.
At the moment all youth and president cup potentials are playing together and it will only be separated into separate groups tomorrow. "We will continue the session until the 24th (December) and the final list of players will then be decided by the selection committee headed by Jelius Ating," he said. Meanwhile, he also said 17 of the Under-21 players from last season are still available for the team next season.
"Seventeen of the players from last season are still eligible to play for us next year. We have a ready squad and if these players can maintain their fitness level, they are most likely to remain in the team." - GL Oh
