TWO-GOAL HERO … Prince Tochukwu Nnake (left), and the MOF FC goalkeeper in action in the FA Cup at the Likas Stadium last night. |
The comfortable win surely gives the state side a sigh of relief after succumbing to two embarrassing defeats in their opening two games in the Premier League challenge. The hosts took a fifth-minute lead through its leading striker Prince Tochukwu Nnake.
It was rather a lucky opener. A poor clearance from the keeper Razi Affendi Suhit saw the ball hit Nnake where the rebound went straight into his own net. But MOF FC had the best opportunity to score the leveller their side in the 20th minute but former national striker Rudie Ramli’s attempt from six yards out went straight to Sabah Rhinos keeper Rozaimi Rohim. Rozaimie, who replaced Mohd Fadzley Abdul Rahim as the Sabah Rhinos last man, made his debut for his new club and had quite an evening.
Late in the first half, Leopold Alfonso Otong could have made it 2-0 for the hosts, but only to find his shot from close range sail above the crossbar. When the second half resumed, Nnake scored his second with a close range header, by finishing off the first attempt by Leopold. At the hour mark, Maxsius made it 3-0 for the hosts, and again it was Leopold the provider. Sabah Rhinos are set to take either on Penang or Kuantan FA in the last 16. But before that, they will switch their focus to the Premier League challenge where they face KL DRB-Hicom in a home game next Friday.
