KOTA KINABALU: KDM Malaysia will shortlist 30 players to attend the final phase of centralised training as they look set to make their debut in the FAM Cup League 2016.
Yesterday, more than 50 players attended the final selection trials held at the Penampang Stadium.
Several ex-state players, either from the senior or junior sides, were among those seeking a place in the KDM Malaysia side.
KDM Malaysia Youth Chief, Henry Sampion, who is among the selectors, said the selected players will undergo centralised training before they name their final squad that would mount their challenge in the league, which is dubbed the country’s third tier league after the Super League and the Premier League.
“We will notify all the selected players for the centralised training. We will fix a date soon,” Henry said. He also said that they are opening their door on ex-state players who have yet to have a team. However, he pointed out that there will be no automatic entry into the team.
“Every player has to go through the selection process, even if they are ex-state players because what we are trying to do is to give equal opportunities to all players who have attended the trials,” said Henry.
He also said that they will not take any players that are still wanted by the state team.
