Sweet revenge for Sabah Prisons over Kajang

 KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Prisons Department gained sweet revenge over defending champion Kajang Prisons as they emerged as the champion in the 36th Tan Sri Murad Ahmad National Prison Football Tournament that ended in Penang over the weekend. It was Kajang Prisons that denied them winning the championship for the two consecutive years last time out, having had won it in 2017 after losing 1-2.

 But this time around, Sabah Prisons Department turned the table on their opponent through two second-half goals from Jasmit Ahmad and Celestinus Doos. Jasmit netted the opener two minutes after the break before Celestinus added the second in the 49th minute. Enroute to the final, Sabah Prisons Department, coached by Roslan Wasli and assisted by Agustin Paga, trounced Sungai Buloh Prisons 3-0 in the semi-finals while Kajang Prisons defeated Negeri Sembilan 2-0.

 Sabah Prisons Department team manager PP Jorennedy Sylvester congratulated his team for a job well done. He said they have done well to avenge their defeat to Kajang Prisons in last year’s final. On behalf of the team, he also expressed his sincere thanks to Sabah Prisons Director Haji Suria Idris and the rest for their support towards the team.

 He also revealed that two of their players, Helmi @ Boy Justin and Celestinus walked away with the Best Player and Top Scorer awards. Celestinus scored seven goals for his side throughout the tournament. According to Jorennedy, the team will take a two-day break before they switch their focus to the KDM Football League FA Cup challenge where they will take on KDM Tongod in a second round tie at their football field in Kepayan on Saturday.

 The players for the final were; Abraham Hariri, Tonny Paga, Abd Ghani Karim, Azmi Ali, Celestinus Doos, Sharizal Enin, Adlan Mayahman, Fendi Linik, Chong yew Tarn, Helmi @ Boy Justin and Jasmit Ahmad and the reserved were Limin Lasaleh, Kissinger Kisi, Mohd Hanafie, Tommy anak Bujeng, Jannereo Jolias, Allen Rudy funk and Razali Awang.
