KOTA KINABALU: Brazilian import Luiz Carlos Junior powered Sabah Tambadaus to a comfortably 2-0 win over Penang in the Premier League match played at Likas Stadium Saturday night.
The newly signed striker this season who has just returned from a thigh injury displayed his lethal finishing with two well taken goals to help his team returned to winning ways after their disappointed goalless draw with Negeri Sembilan in the previous match.
His first goal came from a powerful downward header after he jumped high to meet a perfectly delivered corner kick from Sabri Sahar.
The lanky player combined well with fellow imports Rodoljub Paunovic and Luka Milunovic, and was a constant thorn in the visitors’ defence.
The trio created a lot of scoring opportunities but was unable to break the Penang’s stubborn defence and only had one to show in the first half.
The restart saw Tambadaus picked up where they left off in the opening 45 minutes as they continued to attack the Penang goal.
Their relentless efforts finally paid off within seven minutes after Luiz showed his instinct for goal again when he was at the right time and place to score his second of the night from close range.
The three points won has further strengthen Sabah’s position in the table standing on 14 points from four wins, two draws and one loss after seven matches played.
It was also their second clean sheet this season and they will next take on Kelantan United in the second round of the FA Cup tie away on April 3 , before they play another away match to Selangor United in the league three days later (April 6).
