KOTA KINABALU: Sabah KDMM FC hopes to return home with a big smile from their two consecutive away fixtures in the FAM Cup Group B challenge.
Their first opponents on the road will be UKM FC (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) followed by a tie against MPKB-BRI UBES FC of Kelantan.
They will face off with UKM FC at the UKM Mini Stadium today. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4.45pm.
After kick starting their campaign on a modest note last Sunday, following their scoreless home draw against PKNK FC of Perak, this time around, Sabah KDMM FC, managed by former state player Henry Sampion, will be gunning for maximum points.
But it is not going to be an easy trip for KDMM FC as they are facing teams that both lost their opening fixtures.
UKM FC lost 3-1 to SAMB FC from Melaka away while MPKB-BRI UBES FC were blanked 2-0 at home by Ministry of Finance FC (MOF).
“We will take one game at a time starting with UKM FC. We will give it our best shot and try to score our first ever goal in the competition after the 0-0 draw in the opener,” commented Sabah KDMM FC head coach Andrew Majanggim when contacted yesterday.
“Although, this tie against UKM FC is only our second game of the season, but we need to break the duck as early as possible as we believe that it could help us instil confidence into the team.
“We have done what needs to be done in training, and we have also given extra focus on our attacking play,” Andrew said.
He said all his players are free from injury, and hinted of parading the same side that played against PKNK FC last week.
“For some of our players, this will be their first ever match away from home. But I believe that they have what it takes to play their part in helping the team to our first win,” he added.
“Our main strength is that we play as a team, and if we continue to do that, our chances of winning will be there. We also have quite a number of experienced hands in the team such as Rosdin Wasli, Zuraindey Jumai and Rezuan Muhammad Razy as well as Endre S. Tipay,” said Andrew.
