KOTA KINABALU: The battle for supremacy begins for the State’s best eight teams as the final round of the Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman Cup Inter-District Football Tournament 2013 kicks off in the State Capital here today.
The eight finalists have been drawn into two groups of four, where the group stages are to be played in a round robin format before the knockout stage.
The draw, which was held at the Sabah Football Association office in Likas here yesterday, saw Tawau, Kinabatangan, Kota Belud and Pitas drawn in Group A while Keningau, Beluran, Papar and Sipitang make up Group B.
These teams qualified for the final via qualifying rounds held early this month, involving 17 teams Statewide.
They are the winners of their respective groups (eight).
A handsome RM5000 prize money awaits the champion, who will also walk home with a Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman Challenge Trophy, as well as medals.
The runners up will settle for RM3000 with the two losing semi-finalists will receive RM1000 each.
Apart from the prize money, the FA will also hand out RM5000 for the eight teams, which will help to cover some of their expenses while competing in the tournament.
Four matches will be played every day from today until Wednesday (Nov 13) before the knockout stage, where the top two teams in each group will make a crossover (semi-finals) while the final has been slated for Friday at the Likas Stadium (3.30pm).
Today, four matches will be played, three in the morning while one after the opening ceremony, which is scheduled for 3pm followed by the fourth of the day between Papar and Sipitang.
