KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Cebagoo FC made a quick rebound by nicking a slim 1-0 win over PB Melayu Kedah in a FAM Cup challenge at the Jitra Mini Stadium in Kedah yesterday.
The State sole representative in the league, who went into the tie at the back of their home defeat (0-1) to Pahang Kuantan FA on Wednesday, had Nur Syahri Saili to thank for the win.
Nur Syahri struck the solitary goal of the match early in the first half to give his side all the three points.
Head coach Razali Zinin when contacted said that Syahri’s first shot bounced off the goalpost before hitting the back of the PB Melayu Kedah goalkeeper and went into the net.
“I thought we deserved the three points today (yesterday). The team created many chances but just could not finish them off,” said Razali.
“It was a good win since our opponents were undefeated in their opening two matches … and what better way to redeem ourselves with victory in our first way tie. Furthermore, it was their (PM Melayu Kedah) first home tie,” he added.
Razali revealed that he made some tactical change to his side following the defeat to Kuantan FA.
“We learnt our lesson well after the defeat to (Pahang) Kuantan FA game…we were easily exposed in the middle of the park. Against Kedah we decided to pack the midfield in a 3-5-2 system and it paid off. Not only the team improved tremendously from the Kuantan game but our opponents found it hard to break us.
That was Cebagoo FC second win after kicking start their challenge with a 2-0 victory over Melaka last Feb 17.
The team is staying put in the Peninsular to prepare for their next game against PBAPP FC in Penang on March 6.
