KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s FA Cup second round date with Super League side Selangor has been rescheduled yet again!
The date of the match has been reverted to the initial date – Feb 12, 2013.
However, after a check at the FA of Malaysia official website, the date of the clash remained unchanged – March 2, which was last updated on January 31, 2012.
Yesterday, Sabah FA Secretary General Alijus Hj Sipil confirmed that the tie will be played on the initial date (Feb 12), which falls on the third day of the Chinese New Year.
“We were notified about the latest change to the FA Cup fixture against Selangor yesterday citing that Selangor will be involved in the AFC Cup early March,” said Alijus.
There is no change to the venue and the kick off time, which is the Likas Stadium while the kick-off time is at 3.45pm.
Sabahawks cruised into the second round after a hard fought 2-1 victory over KL Felda United FC while Selangor ousted Armed Forces in a penalty shootout.
It is certainly a bumpy road to glory for the 1995 winners Sabah in the competition.
A win over Selangor will see them pitted against either Kedah or Johor Darul Takzim in quarter-finals.
If they manage to get past the quarters, their possible opponents in the semis could be Pahang, Armed Forces T-Team or KL Sime Darby, who were all in the bottom half of the draw.
For the record, the M-League is currently on a three-week break and would only resume on February 15 where the Sabahawks will be playing away to lowly UiTM FC before taking on KL Pos Malaysia in their first home match of the month on February 18.
After the home tie, they will be on the road again in a difficult away trip as they face the current league leaders Police, who still maintain a perfect run after remaining unbeaten five matches into the season.
Police lead the pack on 13 points from four wins and a draw while Sabahawks stay on seventh with six points – two wins and three defeats.
