FA hopes to finalise foreign imports soon

KOTA KINABALU: At least four foreign players are expected to be on trials with the State squad starting this weekend as the Sabah FA hopes to complete their two-foreign players’ quota signing before they begin their pre-season training for the 2013 challenge. They are now close to tying up Welsh defender, Rhys David Weston, who once skippered Scottish side Dundee FC, and are looking for their second signing, preferably a striker.

“At least four players (foreign) will attend trials with the team this weekend,” the FA Secretary General Alijus Hj Sipil confirmed yesterday. “Those named currently on our list are all offensive players,” he added. The foursome, Alijus revealed are Koh Traore and Sow Ibrahim, both African, Herby Fortunat from the Carribean and Morocco’s Zakaria Salyane.

“We hope that at least one of them could meet our requirements, otherwise we will bring in more for trials,” said Alijus. On the foursome, Alijus said that they do not know much about them, adding that based on their records, they seemed to be good. “However, we will not pick players based on their resume, and that is the very reason why we are bringing them in and would put them to the test before any deal is done.”

Sabah, who is under the watchful eyes of David McCreery, will be plying their trade in the Premier League next season after being demoted from the Super League this year.
