SHAHRUDIN … is the only Sabah player in Datuk K. Rajagopal’s side, who is currently in town to take on Sabah in a historical friendly match at the Likas Stadium tonight. |
Instead the Labuan lad is ready to work hard in order to keep his place in the national team.
Shahrudin, 26, is the only Sabah player in the Datuk K. Rajagopal’s side, who is currently in town to take on Sabah in a historical friendly match at the Likas Stadium tonight.
“I’m happy to have received the national team call-up. I will work harder and perform to my best ability when donning national colours.
“I hope to keep my place,” said Shahrudin, 26, when met at the Sabah-Malaysia national squad joint press conference and meet-the-fans session at the Le Meridien Hotel here yesterday.
For the record, Shahrudin played for Kuala Lumpur and Sime Darby before joining Sabah early this season and has made a convincing start with the State side in the ongoing Super League 2012.
He has been impressive down the right wing for the State team and to top it all, he is a goal-scoring midfielder.
To another question, on how he feels taking on his Sabah teammates, he said: “I will be playing in different colours, so I will give it all against Sabah tomorrow,” he said.
When approached earlier, Rajagopal said that Shahrudin will play in some part of the friendly match, although he is still undecided whether to start him or bring him on later in the game.
“There will be no limit to substitutions so every player will get to see action,” he said.
