ALL GUNS BLAZING
KOTA KINABALU: It will be all guns blazing as Sabah aim for full points when they take on lowly Sarawak in a Malaysia Cup Group C tie at the Sarawak Stadium tonight.
Team manager Rahman Zakaria said they are not taking any chances despite the fact that Sarawak are languishing at the bottom of the standings. “We know they are not doing really well be it in the Malaysia Cup or the Super League, but that is not a good reason for us to take them lightly. “This is a team that can spoil our night, so we have to be ready. Like any other team, we respect Sarawak.
“Furthermore, when you look at their previous two matches, they have been doing quite well. They held Kedah to a two-all draw in an away battle and also managed to hold Selangor to a one-all draw in their last home match.
“So when you take this into account, this (tonight) will not be an easy night for us especially in this derby clash, which has always been closely contested affairs. Nevertheless, Rahman said they will be going for the three points and nothing less.
“We cannot get carried away by what we have done thus far because we haven’t achieved anything yet. “There are another four matches left in the group stages (including tonight) so anything can still happen. We must take this opportunity and go for the three points as it could help us edge closer into booking a place in the last eight,” he added. Rahman also said that they will surely field their best players for tonight’s clash.
“We will be having a full squad for the clash, and I’m quite certain the coach (Drago Mamic) will field his best players,” said Rahman. For the record, Sabah are currently lying second in the six-team standings on 11 points, one behind leaders Kedah.
Perak are third with 10 points, followed by Police with eight. Sarawak and Pahang are level on four points and occupy the fifth and sixth placings respectively.
