KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Under-19 squad slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat as they were beaten 1-2 by Selangor during their Youth Cup Group B tie at the Penampang Stadium on Wednesday.
The visitors started the match with high attacking tempo and they were rewarded with the opening goal as early as in the 11th minute when Sharvin Selvakumaran slid home the ball.
Selangor then added their second five minutes later with another great teamwork move as Muhammad Husni Idrus calmly struck a half volley past Sabah’s Mohd Azlizan Mohd Azlan.
The home side then responded by pulling a goal back in the 18th minute when Mohd Sahrizan Saidin’s free kick was headed into the back of the net by Mohd Faqrul Idris.
The scoreline remained unchanged until half time and despite both sides producing chances in the second half, none of them managed to score any goals which condemned Sabah to their sixth loss of the season.
As a result, Sabah dropped to the bottom in Group B with only three points collected from seven matches played after Penang won their match against Sarawak to climb above Sabah by one point, yesterday.
