KOTA KINABALU: Head coach Billyton Vun Ket Ming is hoping the mistakes his Under 19 team made against Kedah will not be repeated when they take on AMD Under-16 squad in the Youth Cup Ccompetition at Moktar Dahari Academy in Gambang, Pahang, this afternoon (Sunday).
On Wednesday, the attacking strategy against Kedah backfired as they conceded three quick goals in the opening 14 minutes before eventually losing the match 4-0 at Penampang Stadium.
“We must avoid making the same mistakes so early in the game. The players must take note of that and learn from the Kedah game, and must focus fully throughout the 90 minutes to avoid conceding sloppy goals to their opponent,” he said, Saturday.
He added that he will make some tactical changes to the team and will opt for counter attack strategy against the Pahang-based team comprising the country’s top junior players.
“Our opponents tomorrow are a very organised team, and may be more dangerous than Kedah. They have quality individuals and are well prepared for the competition.
“With that in mind, there might be a change in tactic and the players may have to play deeper in defending and opt for quick counter attacks to try to get the goals.”
The starting 11 players today will likely see Azlizan Azlan in goal, Mohd Faqrul Idris and Farhan Airil Aziz as centre backs , with left back Fyellonarllye Mcaxora and right back Seherry Aladin.
Midfield will have the five-man team of skipper Xsevier Xcico Felex, S.A. Radzee Eqmal S.A.Ramli, Johan Mansor, Ahmad Irwanto Rusli, Sahrizan Saidinas while Nazmizan Naslon will be the lone striker up front.
