KOTA KINABALU: KDM Malaysia have short-listed 50 players to attend the final phase of selection trials, which will be held at the Penampang Stadium on December 15.
Its Youth Chief, Henry Saimpon said the players were picked from their recent selection trials held at the State Prisons Department field and in Keningau.
“The figure also includes those players recommended by teams that participated at the KDM Football League 2014-2015,” said Henry.
“We are hoping to select 30 players from this 50 to attend centralised training, and would decide on the final squad prior to the deadline of registration of players,” said Henry, when met at the open selection trials held in Keningau on Thursday.
Selection at both venues attracted more that 100 hopefuls, which also include numerous ex-state Reserve League players.
For the record, KDM Malaysia is contemplating to take part in the FAM Cup League, which is dubbed as the third division league in the country after the Super League and Premier League.
They have submitted their application to the FA of Malaysia, and are currently waiting for the green light from the national body.
If their application is accepted, they will be competing under KDMM FC in the 2016 campaign. KDM Malaysia is not the only team from the State that have expressed their intention to compete in the league.
Sabah DYS FC too has expressed their desire to be in the fray.
The last Sabah representatives in the competition were Cebagoo FC in 2015. “We hope to complete our squad, including team officials by month end, so that we can concentrate on our preparations,” said Henry.
For the record, the FAM Cup League is expected to kick off late February next year.
