Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has given the nod to have the lighting system upgraded at the Likas Stadium to meet the minimum criteria as set by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) so that night football matches could be held there.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said on Sunday that with the consent given by Musa who is also the President of Sabah Football Association he will ensure that the Ministry will do their best to have the job done by January 2014 before the start of the FAM league season.
"At the moment we are still waiting for the fund from the Ministry of Finance.
With the green light given and expectation from the Chief Minister, we will carry out the task as soon as possible as some of the parts need to be imported from overseas and we will make sure that the floodlight from each of the pole will reach 1000lux as required by FAM as currently each pole only produces about 600 lux."
Meanwhile, Sabah FA led by its Deputy President Lawrence Gimbang and Vice President II Datuk Yusof Kassim, Secretary General Alijus Sipil, Assistant Secretary General I and II Junaidi Ahmad Fauzi and Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan as well as Executive Secretary Hasbullah Yahya paid a courtesy call to the Minister at his office recently.
The Minister was briefed on the recent appointment of Milomir Seslija as the new head coach of the Sabah football team and their main task of bringing Sabah back to the their heydays as in the 90s and to win the promotion to the Super League.
Lawrence also disclosed that they are currently looking for three new foreign imports to beef up the squad for the new season.
According to him, the State FA is also busy with the organising of the youth league competition which is set to start on Wednesday (Aug 21) until Aug 25 for the group stages before the State level competition next month.
It will be followed by the Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman Cup football tournament, which is scheduled to kick off in early October where Milomir will have the opportunity to identify the potential players for the State team next season.
