FORMER Sabah defender Janu Miroslav passed away last night after he suffered a heart attack in Surabaya, Indonesia. The 53-year-old Czech had played for Sabah from 1990 to 1992. After ending his playing career in 1993 with Czech side Bohemians Prague, Janu took up coaching and earned a coaching stint with Czech Division 2 side Most in 2002.

A year later, he began his Indonesian journey by joining Persigo before a host of other clubs which included a stint with Slavia Prague’s youth squad. His last position was with Persebaya Surabaya, also known as Bonek.

Miroslav’s best achievement as a coach was in 2011 when he led Arema FC to the runners-up spot in the Indonesian Super League.
