KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Under-19 team got off to a winning start in the Youth Cup challenge after registering a narrow 2-1 win over Negeri Sembilan at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi yesterday.
Arius Jais scored the opener for the Jelius Ating-coached state side by slotting home from close range after only eight minutes of play.
However, Negeri Sembilan levelled the score after 25 minutes of play before Hamran Peter restored their lead 10 minutes later.
“We are happy to kick start our challenge with a win. It was not an easy game, and I congratulate the players for their efforts.
“It was not our best game, but they showed great spirit and determination throughout the match.
I hope, they will continue to show that kind of display for the rest of the season,” said Yassin.
