Kota Kinabalu: Indonesian Dedi Kusnandar or Dado arrived here Monday to try his luck with Rhinos for the 2016 Premier League season.
The 24-year-old midfielder from Sumedang, West Java who last played for Persib Bandung in the Indonesian Super League appeared for the seniors in a friendly against the State President Cup team at the Likas synthetic pitch on Tuesday.
He was employed by assistant coach Johnny Dominicus in a defensive midfielder role and showed some neat touches throughout the match which they won three-nil.
Dado was voted Indonesia Super League U-21 best player in the 2008-9 season and had made 17 appearances for the national under-23 team from 2012-2014 and made his international senior debut in May 2014 against Dominican Republic.
Sabah Football Association (Safa) Deputy President II Datuk Lawrence Gimbang who watched the match together with SAFA Secretary General Alijus Sipil and James Wong said it is still early to make any decision on the player.
"We will see the situation. He is still on trial with us," he said.
It is understood that another Indonesian and former teammate of Dado is set to arrive for trial as well in the coming days.
Head coach Vjeran Simunic who is currently back home in Croatia for the New Year with his family had earlier indicated that he was looking for one Indonesian to fill up one of the foreign imports quota for the team.
"We are looking for three Europeans or overseas players and perhaps one Indonesian," he said.
