TENGHILAN: Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim has thrown a challenge to footballers in the district to gain a place in the State squad.

To achieve this, Jahid said there are no two ways about it, but to improve and lift the quality of their game.
“To reach this level (donning Sabah colours), one needs to seriously try to improve one’s game and must show high discipline.

“They must also give 100 per cent effort in their training,” said Jahid, who is also Tamparuli Assemblyman.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the Tamparuli Assemblyman Cup 9-a-side football tournament held at the Tenghilan town field on Sunday.

The one-day tournament was organised by the PBS Tamparuli Division Youth Movement Sports Bureau.
Tamparuli Division Youth Movement Publicity Secretary Stephen Jaya said the tournament was participated by seven teams from around the district namely Bunga, Molisau, Rasuna, Kelbot, Tenghilan, Betutai and Saradan.
He added that besides in Tenghilan, similar tournaments will also be organised in other areas in Tamparuli such as Topokon, Mangkaladoi, Tuaran Bandar and Tamparuli.

“The winners from each tournament will make it into the division level, which will be held at Tamparuli field on April 22 to 28,” he added.
On Sunday, Kg. Bunga Tenghilan emerged winners after defeating Rasuna in the final while Kelbot finished third.

PBS Tamparuli Division Deputy Head, Madin Anak, and Youth Chief, Romeo Sindeh were also present at the function.
