Third consecutive defeat

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Rhinos failed to capitalise on homeground advantage as theysuccumbed to third defeat in a row in the Premier League challenge after losing 2-0 to KL DRB-Hicom FC at the Likas Stadium last night. The visiting team scored one goal in each side of the tie that saw Muhammad Fakrul Aiman Sidid netting the opener, followed by Muhammad Nazri Mohd Kamal’s second half effort.

It was the hosts that had the first opportunity in the game but unfortunately its Indonesian import Dedi Kusnandar saw his attempt hit the crossbar after 22 minutes of play. As the match approached the half-time break, Muhammad Fakrul struck the opener with a close range effort after receiving a superb pass from his Korean teammate Kim Jinryong.

The first half ended 1-0. After the break, Sabah doubled their efforts, but just could not penetrate DRB-Hicom’s solid defence. Then in the 72nd minute, Muhammad Nazri struck the killer blow with a spectacular second by curling the ball that eventually defeated Sabah custodian Rozaimie Rohim for the second time on the night.

Sabah’s next game is away to Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Feb 29).
